Tagged with: corporate Digital hashtag Twitter British Gas plc last night used a Twitter hashtag campaign to raise £10,000 for housing charity Shelter.The campaign followed the news that British Gas staff had helped raise £1 million for Shelter. On 25 November the company announced that, to mark this achievement, it would donate £1 for each person who tweeted a particular hashtag.It went a little further than other company Twitter campaigns, however, in that you had to watch a short video showcasing just some of the staff who had helped raise funds. Hidden amongst the rapid series of faces was Wilbur the British Gas penguin holding a sign on which the mystery hashtag was displayed. The answer was #TweetForShelter.Of course, once the hashtag started appearing it meant other people didn’t have to watch the video. However, they didn’t need to. The campaign gained momentum yesterday evening and the total was reached at 10pm on 27 November. In this case, the initiative was that of British Gas, but other times they have evolved from a charity’s suggestion.Some work remarkably well. It also adds that 47 children were killed by violent means between January and October of this year, based on police statistics. Already, more children have been killed violently this year than in 2016.Mr. Holness said the banning of corporal punishment would be a “forward-leaning step” in taking a stance against violence generally “and it would send a powerful message about the State respecting the inviolability of the person, whether or not that person is a child or an adult”.“Again, I think it is a matter that we would have to debate here, but I think the time has come with such a report with our commitment to the SDGs. As in South Asia, trade union organisation remains weak in Aliaga,” the platform said.What is more, as explained by the NGO, the landing method which is used in Turkey “also poses environmental challenges as the risk of slag and paint chips falling into the water is high.”However, the platform pointed out that through engagement with NGOs and labour rights groups, the Turkish Ship Recyclers Association remains attentive to constantly improving the industry practice.To that end, several of the yards in Aliaga have applied to be on the upcoming EU list of approved ship recycling facilities. “In order to make it on the EU list, the yards will be subject to critical assessment of their environmental and social performance,” the platform added.In 2016, Turkey dismantled 92 ships, including several drill ships and platforms. MONTREAL – Cogeco Communications Inc. says its earnings fell by about 15 per cent in the third quarter, primarily due to asset impairment and financial charges.The Montreal-based company said after the markets closed Wednesday that its quarterly profit was $64.5 million, down from $76.2 million in the same period of fiscal 2017.Cogeco said that was primarily due to increases in depreciation and financial costs, which were partly offset by a decrease of income taxes and other factors.Revenues increased 12.7 per cent to $637.1 million, driven primarily by 44 per cent growth in the U.S. broadband sector. Revenues held stable in the Canadian Internet services sector.Earnings per share in the quarter were $1.24, compared with $1.55 a year ago.The company also announced a quarterly dividend of $0.475 per share.Cogeco, the parent company, said it posted a gain of $70.1 million in the quarter, down from $82.1 million in the same quarter last year while revenues grew by about 11 per cent to $668.9 million.Cogeco announced last month that its subsidiary, Cogeco Connexion, had acquired 10 spectrum licenses of 2500 megahertz in non-metropolitan areas of Ontario, from Kian Telecom, for $8 million.In May, Cogeco Connexion successfully bid for 23 spectrum licenses of 2500 and 2300 megahertz primarily in its Ontario and Quebec wireline footprints for $24.3 million.The cost of these licenses will be recorded in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2018.“Overall we are satisfied with our performance for the third quarter of fiscal 2018,” said Cogeco Communications president and CEO Louis Audet.“Results at Cogeco Connexion have remained stable compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2017, despite the fact that our Canadian broadband services subsidiary implemented a new advanced customer management system and had consequently temporarily reduced its marketing and sales activities.”Audet also said the positive results in the company’s American broadband services are in line with expectations following the acquisition of the MetroCast cable systems in January.“We are now ready to launch TiVo and Internet speed upgrades to these customers,” he said.Companies in this story: (TSX:CCA)
