Nebraska Releases New Statement Regarding RB Maurice Washington

(Photo by Steven Branscombe/Getty Images)In the wake of the recent report that Nebraska running back Maurice Washington was the subject of an arrest warrant in California, the school appears to have been carefully getting all of the facts straight. Now, Nebraska has released a new statement providing an update.On Thursday evening, the Nebraska athletic department revealed how and when it was informed of the charges Washington is facing. The department revealed that it was first made aware of the situation in September 13, 2018 – more than two years after the event allegedly took place, and several months after the investigation apparently began.According to Nebraska, it was unaware of what the issues concerning Washington were in September. Via Corn Nation:On September 13, 2018, the UNL Police Department informed the Nebraska Athletic Department that the Nebraska Attorney General’s office was seeking to talk to Maurice Washington. UNLPD also provided contact information for Jamie Vaughn, Executive Associate Athletic Director-Compliance, to the Nebraska Attorney General’s office. UNLPD did not know the nature of the inquiry.The school revealed that it spoke to an investigator in the matter and ultimately introduced Washington to an attorney.The statement goes on to say that the school was first made aware of the exact nature of the charges on February 8, 2019, when Michael Bott of NBC Bay Area revealed that he would be publishing a story on the issue. Bott revealed to Nebraska that the charges were for felony child pornography and for misdemeanor “revenge porn.”Washington was Nebraska’s third-leading rusher in 2018, rushing for 455 yards on 77 carries and adding another 221 yards receiving.It remains to be seen if the school intends to impose any disciplinary measures on Washington.Stay tuned.[Corn Nation]last_img
